We don’t drive our cars by only looking at the rear view mirror, so how can we continue to move forward if we are always living in the past. All of us have something in the past that we were not happy about and wish that it could have been changed, what happened in the past should stay in the past because we cannot change the past. The most important thing is to learn from these mistakes and try not to repeat them again.
Did you know that 95% of things you worry about never happen? Thinking about worries could manifest itself into more worries. The best thing you could do is stop thinking about what could go wrong but to focus on the positives in your life. For example if you constantly think about how you could be fire from your current job position then what you could do is to start focusing on the positive, tell yourself how much you enjoy the work and how well you are performing the task. You see, this has a roll on effect, “the less worries you have” = “the better you will perform the work” = “more opportunities for promotion” = “happier self”. Just remember that success builds more successes.
Failure is not necessary a bad thing, as long as you learn from them. Some of the most inspirational people in the world failed numerous times before they succeeded. Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, Oprah Winfrey (also see 10 most inspirational people who did not quit when they were down.) Their fail attempts were stepping stones to their success, allowing them to learn from their mistakes and make improvements. Thomas Edison said it best when someone asked him about his failed attempts on the electric light bulb; He replied: “I have not failed; I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work”. Shortly after the 10,000 failed attempt, he got the light bulb working.
In life when we are faced with difficult situations we often have a choice of 2 paths. First the easier way out or the less painful path. Second the longer way out, the path with the most pain. In a situation like that, most people will select the easy way out because on a psychological level, it offers instant gratification, which is a normal behavior for human to want immediate satisfaction. Don’t just think about the pain you could be going through now, but you have to ask yourself this question, which path will offer maximum benefits in the long run.
We always want something that we don’t have. For example, have you ever said to yourself “I wish I had that BMW” or “I wish I had a big house like my friend? Wishing is the first step of getting what you want but it will not manifest into anything if all you are doing is wishing, plus it won’t make you feel any better knowing that you don’t have the object that you desire. Instead, you should look at what you already have and be grateful for it. If you really want something that you currently don’t have then you must first imagine what you want and then device some sort of method about how you are going to get that object then put it into action, work hard toward your goals to get what you want. Learn how to be more productive here.
Talking about how bad something is will not made it better for yourself or anyone around you. We must first identify the problem then focus all the energy on finding a solution. Ask yourself, “What type of improvement can I make?” or “what can I take away from this experience”.
